What is Swar Siddhanta?

Naming your child based on Swar Siddhanta can give positive results in the growth and development of the child. The most common practice to name a child is based on the quarter of the constellation (Nakshatra) occupied by the radical Moon — that is, the Moon's position at the time of the birth.

Vedic astrology divides the zodiac into 27 parts known as constellations or Nakshatras. Each Nakshatra is further divided into four parts known as Padas. Knowing only the birth Nakshatra is not enough to name the child — one needs both the Nakshatra and the Pada to choose the most suitable Swar out of the 108 Swar groups.

Find the Nakshatra in which the Moon was placed at the time of birth and then locate the pada. For example, if the Moon was in the first pada of Ashwini the name should begin with चु (Chu), and in the third pada of Rohini it should begin with वी (Vee).

Q:What is Swar Siddhanta?

Swar Siddhanta is the Vedic method of naming a person from the syllable of the Nakshatra pada in which the Moon was placed at birth. A name that begins with that syllable (the Naam Rashi) is believed to support the growth and development of the child.

Q:Which letter should my baby's name start with?

It depends on the Janma Nakshatra and pada. If the Moon was in the second pada of Bharani, the name should start with लू (Loo); if it was in the fourth pada of Revati, with ची (Chee). The table above lists the syllable for all 27 Nakshatras and all four padas.
