Tarinidevi (Tanadyo)

The story of how Tarinidevi (Tanadyo) was transferred from Bhaktapur to Taleju.

Tarinidevi (Tanadyo)

In Bhaktapur the Malla kings began to build a grand and extremely tall temple to Taleju Bhavani. But the roof they built during the day would suddenly collapse by itself at night. After this happened continuously for many days, the king became worried.

When the tantrics consulted the omens, they learned — Tarinidevi (Tanadyo), the tutelary goddess of the Thakoojuju family in a low temple nearby, was angered at seeing a temple taller than her own and was causing the roof to collapse at night.

To please Tarinidevi, the king vowed to offer a sacrifice of 360 buffaloes a year.

After that, Tarinidevi was appeased and the construction of the grand Taleju temple was completed. From that time on, Tarinidevi (Tanadyo) began to be reverently worshipped as part of the Taleju temple itself.
